- Search by the company’s USDOT number, MC number, or legal name.
- Check their operating status, active insurance policies, and safety ratings before signing a Bill of Lading.

To verify if a moving company’s MC or USDOT numbers are active and valid, visit the official FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot portal.
On the search page, select the search criteria (USDOT Number, MC/MX Number, or Company Name), enter the digits, and click Search.
The database will generate a Company Snapshot displaying the mover’s current legal status (which should indicate “AUTHORIZED FOR HHG”), active liability and cargo insurance policies, official physical address, and safety history.
If the operating status shows as “INACTIVE” or “NOT AUTHORIZED,” the carrier is not legally permitted to perform interstate moves.
