Packing a filing cabinet may seem simple, but sometimes it requires an extra pair of hands for assistance. During your relocation, it’s incredibly important to store and load all your belongings properly. You can always rely on professional movers and packers, but sometimes it’s better to do it yourself. If you follow these steps closely, you will have peace of mind when transporting your filing cabinet to a new location.

Step 1 - Find packing materials

The first thing you will need to do is obtain proper moving supplies. Moving blankets and tape are the best option. It’s always good to buy the most quality materials to ensure safe relocation. As a professional moving company, we offer our clients excellent packing service, but you can find equally good packing supplies in Home Depot, Lowe’s, or for order on Amazon.

Step 2 - Empty your filing cabinet

Once you get the proper materials, your packing adventure may begin! Empty your filing cabinet, and check that all drawers are completely unoccupied. Files and documents are important, so make sure you store them in a safe place.

Step 3 - Store your documents and files

This is a great opportunity to go through your filing cabinets and see if you can declutter. If you are not careful enough, you can easily lose some important documents. That’s why it’s essential to protect the files and pack them properly to avoid getting damaged during the entire moving process. You can use regular cardboard moving boxes or plastic containers, whatever suits you better.

Step 4 - Remove all the drawers

Filing cabinets are among the most useful pieces of furniture, and that’s why you need to be extra cautious when disassembling them. Carefully remove all the drawers. Doing this will make it easier for you to pack the cabinet and reduce the chances of potential damage.

Step 5 - Wrap the cabinet

The final step may be the hardest one. Wrap the cabinet using plastic wrap and tape. The best way to do this is by using bubble wrap and tape around the cabinet. This will allow you to safely load the filing cabinet into the truck without worrying about possible damage during the transport.
